Wesley Enhanced Living Burholme, 7040 Oxford Ave., was bustling with activity last Wednesday.

Activities director Patricia Webster was overseeing a chicken-hatching project, while a tail-wagging therapy dog was interacting with residents and children from KenCrest early learning center.

New WEL Burholme administrator Joyce Scott paid a visit to the room, as everyone made a fuss over Archie and handed him numerous treats.

Dog owner Linda Robinson explained that Archie is a rescue from Texas. He’s a 5-year-old mutt, mostly part dachshund and Chihuahua, who was trained as part of a program called Angel on a Leash.

“He really brightens up everybody’s day,” Webster said.

KenCrest kids were returning to WEL Burholme for the first time since the pandemic while Archie has been coming to the personal care facility for about a year and a half.

The youngsters led the group in a singing of Wheels on the Bus and the ABC Song.

While the kids, Archie and the residents enjoyed each other’s company, four chicks were recently hatched, with eight more expected to follow before going to their next destination at Quiver Farm in Pennsburg, Montgomery County.

Meanwhile, WEL Burholme will be hosting a community event on Thursdays, Aug. 31, from 2-4 p.m. There will be music, raffles and treats, and the public is invited. ••
